Start of the lecture series "Infrastructure for livable rural regions"

The lecture series ‘Infrastructures for liveable rural regions: understanding, preserving, shaping’ explores this area of tension from various academic perspectives. It is being held as part of the DFG Research Group ‘Adaptation processes of public service infrastructures in peripheral rural areas (AdaptInfra)’. The focus is on the question of how infrastructure adapts to changing conditions – and what opportunities exist to actively shape these adaptation processes.

Please note, this lecture series will only be held in german.

Official launch of the DFG research group „AdaptInfra - Adaptation processes of public services infrastructures in rural and peripheral areas“

To mark the official start of the project, the consortium partners gathered at the University of Greifswald on 8 and 9 October 2026 for a kick-off event. At the event, the ten new PhD students and one postdoctoral researcher were welcomed by the project’s principal investigators, cooperation partners and representatives of the university’s supporting organisations.

Over the course of four years, AdaptInfra will investigate how infrastructure in rural and peripheral areas adapts to changing social, economic, technical and environmental conditions.

The interdisciplinary research group AdaptInfra brings together experts from the fields of economics, law, psychology, medicine, geography, theology and political science, thereby linking all the faculties at the University of Greifswald. In addition, the University Medicine Greifswald, the University Medicine Rostock, the Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University of Kaiserslautern-Landau and the Institute for the Sustainable and Environmentally Sound Development of the Earth’s Natural Spaces (DUENE e.V.) are participating in the project.
